Matt Geer BMus (Hons) (GSMD) SMISM TSSF FSCO is a British doctoral philosopher and composer born in 1996, whose main interests lie in phenomenological approaches to consciousness, system composition and aesthetic philosophy. In a world temporally accelerated by technology, his music explores a range of ways that sounds can influence our consciousness. Meditation, ritual, mental health and chant have a major impact on his aesthetic and compositional output, and he regularly engages with the use of permutational and combinatorial systems. |
Matt Geer (b. 1996) is a researcher based in Hastings, East Sussex. His philosophical writings engages with issues pertaining to time, especially in relation to music and art aesthetics. He is particularly interested in the experience of time within consciousness. Time is an erratic dimension and a physical property, just like mass or velocity. Geer's writings aim to display how this instability feeds into our consciousness. Questions he often asks himself include: How can we best comprehend a moment in time?
|
What distinguishes my present from another's present? How does understanding the lineage of time explain conscious experience? In 2022, he published his first book "At this Moment in Time: Philosophical Perspectives on New Music", which is available from KPD Publishing Ltd.
As a composer, he is dedicated to the pursuit of using systems and processes in the most bare sense. His music has been workshopped and performed by the BBC |
